Dampers
These products
are used to tune the resonant frequencies
of actuator arms in disk drives, and consist
of a stainless steel constraint layer adhered
to a viscoelastic damper. IntriPlex has developed
manufacturing and assembly methods that enable
the creation of recessed adhesives and adhesive-free
zones, providing a unique way to improve product
performance and down-stream assembly.
The resonant
frequency of discrete actuator arms has a
significant impact on the performance of the
disk drives that use them. The resonant modes
can be improved by using a laminate material,
essentially a sandwich of lightweight material
constrained between stiffer members.
Interference
bands are cylindrical bands of metal used
to join connect a shaft and hub. The metal
contains formed bumps that provide a press
fit between these surfaces, and enable the
use of components with greater manufacturing
variation than would otherwise be acceptable.
IntriPlex performs custom modeling and manufacture
of IB bump design to satisfy customer requirements
including insertion force, installation cleanliness,
and resonant frequency.
Swage Mounts
provide a reworkable mechanical connection
between an arm and read-write head in a disk
drive. IntriPlex pioneered the fabrication
of these components with patented metal forming
techniques more than twenty years ago, and
remains the industry leader regarding all
aspects of testing, manufacture, and performance
of these small precision components.
